Doctors Medical Center was opened in 1962, by a group of local physicians, and is part of Tenet HealthSystem.  A $72 million expansion allows Doctors Medical Center to meet the growing health care needs in the areas of trauma, cardiology, high-risk obstetrics, neonatal intensive care, neurology and oncology.

Kaiser Permanente came to the Central Valley in 1985 and is currently building a new Medical Center Campus to complement its established services in Modesto. The new Modesto Medical Office (MMO) at the future Modesto Medical Center site will open in October 2006 as part of a nearly $500 million project. They will add 400 employees to the more than 2,800 employees and physicians who provide the highest level of care to their members. Services will include: Adult Medicine, after-hours care, pharmacy, laboratory, cardiology, orthopedics, surgery, and other services and departments.

Memorial Medical Center opened in 1970, is affiliated with Sutter Health, and operates as a non-profit.  A $160 million expansion is underway slated for completion in early 2007 to enhance their full continuum of care including: 24-hour emergency care, inpatient and outpatient surgery, obstetrics, pediatrics, nuclear medicine, dialysis therapy, diagnostic imaging, intensive care services, physical therapy and home health.
