Contact: Anne Schultze (209) 341-2982 City to Host Mexican Independence Day Celebration The City of Modesto Parks, Recreation and Neighborhoods Department and the Interagency Group will host the Annual Mexican Independence Day Celebration Tuesday, September 16, from 5-8:30 p.m., at the Neighborhood Center at Marshall Park, 420 Chicago Avenue. The event will kick-off with keynote speaker Councilmember Dave Lopez. The festivities will feature performances by Mariachi La Union, accompanied by vocalist Olivia Gonzalez, local dance groups Grupo Folklorico Mixtlan, Comparsa de Chinelos and Ballet Folklorico Xochippili, and a horsemanship demonstration by local charros. Children’s activities will include games, crafts, face painting and a bounce house and bungee run. The event will also feature cultural foods, prizes and informational booths. Music will be provided by DJ Invisible. The Mexican Independence Day Celebration is supported by Modesto Irrigation District, Golden Valley Health Centers, Mi Pueblo Food Mart, Familia Juarez Mexican Restaurant, El Jalapeño Restaurant, HomeTown Buffet, Seven-Up Bottling Company and Yosemite Meat Company.
